history / about tryd&true
Fresh faces, inventive ideas and functional designs describe what this new Canadian line has to offer. Established in 2006, Tryd&True (T&T), is a company that is inspired by everyday women. Amy Wong, Sara Mckenty and Sandra Oikawa have united a shared passion and a unique vision to provide clothing that truly fits the lifestyle of the independent, clever and vivacious woman.
As a young girl, talented seamstress and designer, Amy Wong experimented with unique and innovative ways of spicing up her wardrobe by using her mother's sewing machine. When people would see her creations and ask where she got a specific piece, she would shyly respond, "I made it". Secretly she loved the idea of her clothes making an impression on people in her home town, Ottawa, Ontario. After graduating from Fashion Design program at Seneca College in Toronto, She continued to hone her skills working her way through the city's industry, into the key supporting role at independent shop "House of Spy". With experience under her belt and passion in her heart it was time to move to the next stage.
Hailing from Perth, Ontario talented edgy designer Sara McKenty came to Toronto to pursue everything fashionable. Whatever she couldn't find she would make and what wasn't exactly how she imagined it, she would alter. Torn between many subjects of interest, she decided to pursue Commerce at Queens University and graduated in spring 2002. Although proud of this achievement she was not convinced that business alone could satisfy her creative spirit. In 2005 Sara graduated with honours from the Fashion Design program at the International Academy of Design in Toronto. Since then she has worked as the assistant designer Wonderlust Clothing. Having dealt first hand with the idiosyncrasies of the industry she craves the challenge that lies ahead for the Tryd&True team.
Rounding out the trio is Sandra Oikawa. A well traveled individual, she has toured the world studying and observing different cultures and the fashion trends they have to offer. Her love to travel has broadened her scope on what's "fashionable" and allowed her creative juices to thrive. With a BA in Labour studies from McMaster University, A Post Diploma in Marketing Management and having over 5 years experience in sales, this energetic, ambitious woman felt it was time to pursue something on her own. With experience behind her and her drive to succeed she teamed up with Amy and Sarah and formed the company Tryd&True.
T&T will continue to push barriers, encourage each other, maintain integrity, and always be true to ourselves and the brand that we have created.
